Electronic scooters can be spotted at just about every city corner across the United States. Scooter companies like Lime and Bird have dropped off the e-scooters in popular urban areas. The scooters run off of cell phone apps.
While the e-scooters are a hot new trend, Business Insider reports many riders aren’t having the best experience. The news source says there are likely thousands of individuals who’ve succumbed injuries from the scooters. CNET reported one ER room in Austin alone sees 10 injuries per day from e-scooters.
Business Insider reports scooter companies are quick to point out safety tips on their websites. Lime and Bird both mention that helmets are required for all riders.
However, both Lime and Bird’s Instagram feeds tell a different story. Many of their photos show riders without helmets, and Business Insider reports Bird was a major supporter of a new California law which will repeal a helmet requirement for e-scooter riders.
