Pepperidge Farm has voluntarily recalled Goldfish crackers due to fears there is salmonella in the product. Cameron Jenkins with NPR explains that this all began when an ingredient supplier the company uses notified Pepperidge Farm that a whey powder contained in the seasoning could potentially contain the salmonella bacteria.
Since the recall, Pepperidge is doing their best to take precautions by letting consumers know to throw out or return their products for a refund.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Food is the source of about 1 million salmonella-related illnesses, 19,000 hospitalizations and 380 deaths in the United States every year.”
