According to Food Safety News, Southern Specialties Inc. has recalled some of Walmart’s Marketside brand of green beans and squash. The fresh bagged green beans and pre-cut butternut squash were recalled due to possible contamination of Listeria.
According to the FDA, Southern Specialties Inc.’s recall says it is unknown if any of the implicated vegetables reached retail shelves. The vegetables were shipped to one retail distribution center and may have reached select stores in the following states:
- Alabama
- Florida
- Georgia
- Kentucky
- Mississippi
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Virginia
The voluntary recall was issued after a raw material supplier notified Southern Specialties that it was issuing a recall after a routine test of a food contact surface came back positive for Listeria bacterium.
Southern Specialties is not aware of any illnesses associated with the recall of fresh green beans or pre-cut butternut squash.
Consumers who have questions or concerns should contact Southern Specialties or visit their website.
