A group of us recently volunteered at The Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, a nonprofit that works to feed hungry people and solve hunger issues throughout 46 counties. According to Second Harvest, 1 in 8 Americans struggle with putting food on the table. Our volunteers were excited to step into action and help people in need gain access to food.
Our team volunteered with the food bank’s Middle Tennessee’s Table, sorting food donated by more than 200 grocery stores and food donors. We were in the freezer and we sorted meat, veggies, and prepackaged meals. The freezer was about 40 degrees, so we bundled up in sweaters, jackets, and gloves before we got to work.
The cold didn’t slow us down! We were excited to find out at the end of our shift we sorted 4,582 pounds of food which equals to 3,318 meals.
