First impressions are extremely important, so it is valuable to take the time to analyze your firm’s current intake process and make improvements where you see fit. Manni Sandoval shares some helpful legal intake tips in her article for Attorney at Work.
Sandoval suggests that firms create a rough script of questions for intake to ensure you get all the information you need to evaluate whether there is a valid case and if the case is a good fit for your firm. Creating this list of specific questions will prevent you from getting off the phone and realizing you forgot to ask an important question.
According to Sandoval, it can be helpful to start an intake by explaining to the prospective client roughly how long the call will take and making sure that it is a good time for them to answer some questions for you. This can prevent you and the prospective client from feeling rushed or having to end the call unexpectedly.
Like many other aspects of your business, it is beneficial to periodically take a look at your intake process and adjust the parts of the process that have room for improvement. Sandoval recommends listening to calls occasionally and asking your employees and clients for feedback on what they think of the process.
