Google recently confirmed the removal of ads on the right side of results pages, and that left everyone wondering about the impact. Would this drive the price higher on advertising? What will organic traffic look like now? Most importantly, how does this change SpyFu data results?
In Spyfu’s recent article, author Sidra Condron explains that SpyFu will continue to capture the top ads and organic results you are used to viewing. The article also shows a comparison of February 2016’s layout compared to March 2016’s layout of Google results pages.
Overall, the biggest change is in the format. In the old format, Google showed 11 ads on the first page, but now only shows 7. SpyFu will catch ads in spots 1 through 14 (page 1 and 2 results). Two major trends SpyFu will continue to watch as this rolls out is spending and ad position shift since it will be a fight for page 1 placement.
SpyFu is a search analytics company that started in 2005. SpyFu shows the keywords that websites buy on Google Adwords as well as the keywords that websites are showing up for within search results. Other services include cost per click and search volume statistics on keywords and uses that data to approximate what websites are spending on advertising.
