Videoconferencing has become an integral part of communicating. You use videoconferencing to chat with clients, referral sources, and your law firm employees. Using video to communicate is important and it’s also important to look professional when you do it. According to Andrea Cannavina’s Attorneyatwork.com article, here are some tips to level up your videoconferencing professionalism.
Background.
Make sure your video background isn’t distracting. You can use a green screen or virtual background, but it isn’t necessary to look professional. Virtual backgrounds can often move or show part of your actual background. You can get away without using one by making sure your background isn’t distracting. Make sure the room behind you is clean. Also, make sure that you have a plain background. Your background can be a bookshelf or even just a plain wall.
You might also want to consider having your video conferencing area separate from your workspace. You can still be in the same room but consider having a space that won’t be distracting you from other work while you are in a meeting.
Camera Angle.
If you can invest in a video camera that isn’t built into your computer. Having a USB video camera can give you the ability to move your camera angle. Your camera angle should be slightly above your eye level. You shouldn’t have to lift your head to look directly into the camera. During video conferences, you should be looking into the camera for the majority of a meeting. Having the camera above eye level will give the appearance that you are looking directly at someone during the meeting. Although this can be difficult to get used to it is an important skill to have.
