According to an article from AttorneyAtWork, 95% of people procrastinate. We all procrastinate, and it has a negative effect on our work and our productivity.
Here are a few tips from AttorneyAtWork to help beat procrastination:
- Get Organized
Sometimes it is hard to decide what you need to do next and which tasks are most important. Keep a running to-do list so you can see all of the things that you need to get done. List which items are the highest priority and most time-sensitive. Take a look at your to-do list before you leave for the day, and decide which things are most important for the next day. Plan out your day in advance, and schedule which tasks or projects you are going to do at what times during the next day. Start with the most difficult tasks or the projects that you are dreading most. If you already have it in your schedule to work on them, you’re much less likely to put them off.
- Exercise During the Day
Getting in a 30-60 minute workout on your lunch break can help you get re-energized and increase your productivity. Another way to get moving is to take short walks in the morning, afternoon, or on your lunch break.
- Make the Task More Pleasant
If you have a task that you are putting off, you likely don’t want to do it. To trick your brain into not dreading it, do it in your favorite chair or office space, grab your favorite coffee or snack, or treat yourself to your favorite lunch spot when you are done.
- Commit to Five Minutes
Getting started is the hardest part. Once you start the task and are deep into it, you’ll likely get on a roll and finish it, or at least get a good chunk done. If you have a task you keep procrastinating on, tell yourself you’ll do 5-10 minutes of the task, and you’ll likely get a lot more done.
