According to Reuters, Uber Technologies Inc. has announced that they will be releasing a new safety feature to help riders ensure that they are not getting into the car with a fake ride share. This announcement comes two weeks after the murder of South Carolina University student, Samantha Josephson.
Uber says the new feature will notify riders to “Check Your Ride” just before their car arrives and will give riders steps to identify their correct vehicle. The feature will soon be rolling out across the U.S.
The company has also stated they will be launching a social media and ad campaign to raise awareness about fake ride share scams and how riders can protect themselves.
