Public Justice Files Amicus Brief With Social Scientists to Uphold Homeless Rights in Supreme Court Battle

Public Justice has taken a significant step in advocating for the rights of homeless individuals by submitting an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court case, Grants Pass v. Johnson. This case holds tremendous importance as it addresses whether laws penalizing homeless individuals for sleeping outdoors without access to safe shelter violate the Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The amicus brief, supported by 57 social scientists with peer-reviewed research on homelessness, provides critical insight into the societal impacts of such laws.

Grants Pass v. Johnson is poised to be the most significant case concerning homelessness in the past four decades. Public Justice joins a broader coalition of support, with the National Homelessness Law Center (NHLC) and over one thousand organizations and public leaders backing the cause with over 40 amicus briefs filed.
