Brian McCallister's 911 Response Case That Made a Difference® In His Community

In the third episode of our series with Brian McCallister, from the McCallister Law Firm, he shares a recent case that led to a positive change in his community. Cathryn McClelland, a 40 year-old mother of two, collapsed in her home in July of 2019. Her husband, Frank, was traveling for work multiple states away. The couple's 8 year-old son called 911, but improper procedures delayed the emergency response leading to Cathryn's death. Experts testified in court that following the correct procedures would have likely saved her life. As a condition of the $4.1 million settlement, Kansas City PD now reviews 50 random 911 calls each month to ensure dispatchers are following the correct procedures. The new measure, known as "Cathryn's Code," aims to prevent similar situations in the future.

Brian McCallister is the founder and owner of The McCallister Law Firm, P.C. Since founding the law firm in 1996, Brian has dedicated his professional life to the representation of individuals and families in cases involving catastrophic injury or death resulting from dangerous products, semi-tractor-trailer crashes, automobile crashes, and medical malpractice.

Brian graduated from the Saint Louis University School of Law in 1988. He has practiced in the Kansas City area since then. He was selected to serve on the Board of Governors of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys (MATA), Missouri's premier plaintiffs' rights bar organization, then served on MATA’s executive committee for ten years from 2007 – 2016, in the last year of which he served as MATA’s President.  He is a graduate of the prestigious Trial Lawyers College, founded by famed plaintiff’s lawyer, Gerry Spence in 1994.  Brian is currently a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA), and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.  He has three adult children, and his youngest, Jillian, is preparing for law school as we speak!
