According to an article by the New York Post, a $3 billion class-action lawsuit has been filed against the current and former owners of a Bronx apartment that caught fire and led to the death of 17 people and injuries to over 60 people. The fire was caused by a space heater and was allowed to spread by faulty self-closing doors.
Plaintiffs allege landlords should be held liable for the tragedy because they have known of the unsafe conditions of the apartment building for many years and failed to take action.
The New York Post article states a notice of claim has also been filed against the city because they did not ensure inspections happened to fix known safety issues with the buildings in the Bronx.
