California has ordered Comcast and one of their cable installation contractors to pay a $7.5 million settlement to resolve a lawsuit enacted by more than 4,000 workers, as reported on News.Law.
The California wage and hour lawsuit alleged that the communication providers violated workplace regulations and protections created by the state’s labor laws and Fair Labor Standards Act. Workers allege they were not properly compensated for both their regular hours and overtime hours worked. In addition, the workers said they were not given rest or lunch breaks.
TopClassActions.com says the lawsuit’s additional claims include:
- That workers were pressured to report they had taken meal or rest breaks when they had not
- That workers’ time cards were manipulated after they had been submitted
- That workers were not reimbursed for necessary costs associated with the job, and in some cases were required to buy their own tools
