In today’s blog, we will review how to use the absolute value (ABS) in Excel.
This formula is helpful if you are converting a column of both negative and positive numbers to positive numbers only.
Let’s say column A has a list of numbers beginning in field A2. They are both negative and positive. In column B, enter the formula =abs(A2) and then hit enter. Copy this formula down the entire column. You will now see the absolute value of each of the numbers in column A.
Note: This function typically applies when you are doing calculations that involve distance. It is not very common in the corporate world, but I have used it occasionally.
We love feedback from our customers and implement suggestions often. What shortcut do you use the most? If you have a question or idea for a Microsoft Windows or Excel tip that you would like to see, let me know and I might write about it!
