According to Law.com, a lawsuit against Abbott Laboratories and Mead Johnson Nutrition, both companies that make milk-based formula for infants, has led to a law firm continuously seeking justice against these companies.
One of the first lawsuits was against the companies due to consumption of the formula allegedly leading to the death of the plaintiffs' premature son.
The attorney fighting on behalf of the plaintiff found multiple peer-reviewed articles alleging a connection between the products and premature babies developing an intestinal disease. The attorney continued researching the connection between the cow-based formula for infants and found that more people had premature babies impacted by consuming the product.
The attorney wanted to connect with those impacted by the product. He connected with three other attorneys in the area who were also working on cases similar to his. They created a Facebook group for parents of premature babies to discuss their experience with the baby formula. Most of the Facebook group participants ended up reaching out to the attorneys who created the group. The attorneys had over 400 parents contact them whose premature babies consumed the formula within the first three months of the group.
The attorneys left the firms they were working at and created a firm to pursue the baby formula cases. Most of the nationwide lawsuits are still pending against both companies. The companies dispute the allegations that their formula in premature babies causes intestinal diseases.
