According to Joe Hernandez of NPR, Fitbit has recalled their Ionic Smartwatch due to the risks of the lithium-ion battery in the watch overheating and causing burns.
This recall covers over 1.7 million watches sold. Fitbit is encouraging those who own one to return the watch for a refund and a discount on other products.
Hernandez reports, "There were 78 reports of burn injuries in the U.S. – two involving third-degree burns and four involving second-degree burns – as well as 40 burn injuries globally."
