On December 5, 2017, a wrongful death lawsuit was filed in the 298th District Court of Dallas County, Texas, Docket #DC-17-16588. The plaintiffs in this case filed on behalf of their son, who was a passenger on the Greyhound bus line.
The lawsuit alleged the bus driver stopped at a Pilot Travel Center in Central Point, Oregon, and was required to perform a headcount of the passengers before leaving the truck stop; however, he failed to do so. The decedent attempted to catch up to the Greyhound bus as it was pulling out of the Travel Center and was run over by the bus and killed in the process.
After a two (2) year court battle, the jury hearing the case ruled in favor of the plaintiffs on December 11, 2019, and awarded them a $20 Million verdict against Greyhound Lines, Inc.
