Running a law firm and trying cases can lead to a stressful day-to-day working environment. Maintaining a positive attitude when interacting with clients, referral sources, and vendors can be difficult when stressed. According to Sally J. Schmidt’s Attorneyatwork.com article, here are a few ways you can refresh your professional attitude.
In-Person and Virtual Meetings
Take a few minutes before a meeting to prepare. Try taking a few deep breaths and reviewing your notes before a meeting. Ensure you do not have any distractions for your meeting.
If you are having a virtual meeting, close all other programs on your computer. Also, consider silencing your work and personal phone to give your full attention to the meeting. If you have an in-person meeting, ensure your cell phone notifications are off or consider leaving your phone in the other room. Ensure your team knows that you are unavailable and don’t bring items that distract you from the meeting.
Be prepared to make small talk at the start of your in-person or virtual meeting. Creating a rapport with the person you are meeting with will help you transition from small talk to the meeting topic.
Emails
Review your emails before sending them to your clients or vendors. Take a minute to personalize your email about something you recently discussed with your client or vendor. Check-in on them and ask genuine questions to your contacts. Asking a question about something going on in their life takes little to no extra effort but means a lot to someone.
