AmerisourceBergen Corp, McKesson Corp, and Cardinal Health Inc., the three largest opioid distributors are on trial against the city of Huntington and Cabell County in West Virginia. According to an article by Brendan Pierson of Reuters, the lawsuit claims that the distributors are responsible for the opioid crisis.
The trial is expected to last 12 weeks. Pierson states that the plaintiffs are “seeking money to address the toll the opioid crisis has wreaked on their communities – estimated by one of their expert witnesses at $2.6 billion.”
The defendant argues that the doctors, drugmakers, and regulators are to blame because they write the prescription and determine the quotas for production.
