Many of us have adjusted to what is being referred to as “the new normal” since COVID-19 hit its peak back in March. A great number of people were sent home to work, including myself. Although some companies have started sending their employees back to work due to the decreasing number of Coronavirus cases, other companies are playing it safe as long as possible.
Many people are adjusting to working from home while our children or pets become our zoom backgrounds! We are learning to be more self-motivating and juggling work along with being personal chefs, schoolteachers and dog sitters.
However, one question people are asking: Is this “new normal” here to stay? I personally know several people in the corporate office of a national retail chain who were sent to work from home permanently. Companies are starting to see the benefits of less office space and more productivity. According to Olga Khazan’s article, “Work From Home is Here to Stay” in The Atlantic:
“In spite of all the distractions at home, having employees work remotely more might be beneficial for employers and workers alike. Some small experiments have found that combining work and home can actually boost morale in certain circumstances.”
Social Media giants like Facebook and Twitter have also announced sending workers home permanently.
Whether you enjoy working from home or you prefer an office environment, one thing the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us is to be adaptable. Stay safe, everyone!
