Today, November 11th is Veterans Day! Each year, it is a day for us to honor all American veterans for their bravery and willingness to serve our country. We recognize and appreciate all of the sacrifices that were made by them and their families.
Veterans Day began in 1919 a year after the ending of World War I. It was originally called “Armistice Day” to mark the temporary cease in hostilities that took place between Germany and the Allied Nations in 1918 on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. President Eisenhower officially changed the name to Veterans Day in 1954.
We would like to recognize a few of the veterans our team members know and love:
- Jeff Glueck, Vice President of Strategic Solutions, served from 2000-2005 in the Navy as a Lieutenant. He was stationed at FT Dix NJ and did several tours to Sicily and Cyprus.
- Bob Myers, father of our CEO Paul Myers, was in the Navy aboard the USS Wasp aircraft carrier from 1958-1962. He served mostly in Florida and Cuba.
- Justin Warren, son of President and Director of Associate & Client Experience Donna Jones, was in the Navy 2009-2015.
- Kirk P. Snyder, father of Credit Entry Specialist Tammi Brewster, was in the Navy for 20 years.
- Michael Torkelson, nephew of Credit Entry Specialist Tammi Brewster, is currenty serving in the Army.
- Jack Whitman Sr., grandfather of Marketing Communication Manager Candace Whitman, served in the Airforce during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
- Larrin Habeger, husband of Credit Administrator Robin Habeger, is a US Navy veteran. He joined right out of high school.
- William “Bill” W. Cushing, father of Senior Director of Strategic Solutions Lynne Cushing, served in the Army for two years and was stationed in Panama in the 1950’s.
- Dr. Charles W. Harms, grandfather of Director of Client Management Services Michelle Rigsby, served in WWI as a 1st Lieutenant with the Marines. He was 29 when he was drafted, having just finished his residency at Omaha Wesleyan Hospital. He was stationed in France working on a triage hospital train when he was exposed to mustard gas and discharged after suffering from shell shock.
- John Nelson, father of Senior Accounting Specialist Sara Nelson, served in the Air Force for 28 Years before retiring. He was Chief of the Office of Special Investigations.
- Troy Nelson, brother of Senior Accounting Specialist Sara Nelson, served in the Air Force for 26 years before retiring. He was a Master Sergeant and Superintendent of Flight Safety. He served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He performed flight safety and maintenance, mid-flight fueling, weather reconnaissance (they would fly in the eye of hurricanes to report back!), air lift rescue, and plane maintenance and safety. John now loves to play bass guitar and trumpet.
- Todd Nelson, brother of Senior Accounting Specialist Sara Nelson, has served in the United States Marnie Corps at Camp Pendleton as a Gunner -LAV.
- Ty Nelson, brother of Senior Accounting Specialist Sara Nelson, served in the Air Force, Army National Reserve, & Army National Guard for 21 Years before retiring. He was a Staff Sergeant E6.
We would like to thank all the American veterans who served and protected our country. These brave people served to protect our freedoms and rights in this country. Join us in honoring them today and every day of the year.
